Come out to an art exhibit and recognition reception being held at the Harnett County Courthouse this Monday, April 23rd to view artwork from local kid-artists and raise public awareness of Child Abuse Prevention.
The art exhibit is in observation of Child Abuse Prevention Month 💙 and Guardian ad Litem Volunteer Appreciation Month. Harnett County children have expressed in these art pieces “What Makes You Feel Safe and Happy?”. 🎨 🖌
❤️ Where’s the art? It’s located in Suite A-2017 of the Harnett County Courthouse.
❤️ There will be a recognition reception for the artists & Guardian ad Litem volunteers: Monday, 4/23/18 from 2:30-4:00 PM on the 3rd-floor lobby of the Harnett Co. Courthouse.
Mermaid Point is proud to be donating some of the refreshments that will be provided for the recognition reception. 💙 🧜🏼♀️

Hey there, Community on the Cape Fear!
We are currently looking for local artists who’d like to place their artwork on our walls, with a price tag! We aren’t even asking for commission at this time. The Mermaid Point family has a great love of the arts and we thought it’d be a cool idea to showcase local, North Carolina-grown artwork from local North Carolina artists. A brief list of artwork criteria includes, but is not limited to:
- Photography, paintings, mixed-media pieces, and drawings must be framed, mounted, and hangable.
- Artwork should reflect some aspect of local NC life, nature, architecture, people, and culture. We’ll definitely consider art pieces depicting other areas of North Carolina, like beaches and mountains, cities and towns.
- Needs to be “family friendly”. We understand that lots of beautiful and meaningful artwork has sensitive subject matter or tasteful nudity, etc. however, we are a family restaurant so the artwork displayed needs to be accessible to everyone.
- Message us through Facebook with pictures of pieces you’d like us to consider for display, and any questions you might have. Do not post artwork pictures or ask questions on the Mermaid Point “public” timeline, please. Only privately messaged requests will be considered.
Something fun we’ve got coming up: Merlot & VanGo’ will be back on Sunday, March 18th from 3-5pm for another instructional painting class! In this class, we’ll be expertly walked through the steps of painting a glass jar filled with fresh-cut spring flowers. 🌸 🌼 🌷
We’re super excited about that because Merlot & VanGo’ makes sure everyone who attends their classes gets the quality materials, instruction, and the great attitude we expect when we’re in our creative “art-zone”! 🎨 🖌 Art class participants will, of course, be able to order drinks and food while painting too.
Here’s the link to sign up, only $25 per painter! 😉 Merlot & VanGo’ Painting Class Sign-Up
-See y’all later, the Mermaid Point family!
Ahh, February. The shortest month but, oh how sweet it is! Your friends at the Mermaid know how preparing for Valentine’s Day can feel like a chore-list:
1. Set up dinner (Cook something yourself or eat out??)
2. Buy flowers (Roses or carnations?)
3. Jewelry… (😱)
4. Something sweet (Truffles, cake, BOTH??)
Oh, that list could go on for days and days… We’d like to offer our help with checking one or two items off your list of things to do. Even if you don’t have a Valentine you can treat yo’selves to a slice of our complimentary cake on February 14th.
Our Valentine’s Day dinner service from 5pm until close will include a warm, candlelit table and a slice of complimentary, delicious and home-made Red Velvet Cake. Our own dear Ms. Susie makes our cakes with love and heart and we’re excited to serve it to y’all on Wednesday, February 14th.
However you decide to celebrate (or not) this Valentine’s Day, we hope it’s a lovely day, nonetheless! Come on out and get yourself a free slice of cake with dinner, either way.
Sincerely, The Mermaid Point family
Well, Community on the Cape Fear, it’s almost Super Bowl Sunday again! We’ll have the televisions at Mermaid Point tuned in for this Super Bowl showdown and we’re aiming to keep things low-key and chill. If that’s your kinda scene, we’ve got the place for you to kick back, maybe eat a lil’ somethin’, drink a beer, watch a great game of football, and maybe chat with one or two friendly folks who happen to be here.
We’ll have some drink specials, some food specials, and a friendly atmosphere to share with our amazing river community! Go, team!
See you on Sunday, February 4th, 2018! The game kicks off around 6pm. We’ll be here until after the winning touchdown is played and …beyond!
Say farewell to those cabin fever blues and come out to Mermaid Point for something hot and delicious! Our friendly servers are waiting to deliver fantastic service and delicious eats and drinks just for you!
Hi everyone! We hope you’re reading this from a place that is somewhere warm and cozy.
Locals can look out their windows and see the reason we decided to remain closed. Folks from the north are yukkin’ it up at us Southerners and our “snow issues”, but that’s ok! We still love ’em!
Due to the dangerous conditions that may or may not endure for a day or two more, we here at The Mermaid thought it best to ensure the safety of our staff and close up until things melt a bit and roads are more passable without so much sliding around. We also didn’t want to tempt customers too much to take a treacherous drive on the icy roads for a taste of delicious, hot goodness had we decided to open our kitchen right now 😋
We hope you understand and we are truly looking forward to serving you all again soon! Stay safe and warm, bundle up and go play outside while you can. Whether your desired post-snowplay beverage is a hot chocolate or a hot toddy, we look forward to seeing y’all walking through our doors and at our tables again soon!

Hello, Community on the Cape Fear!
Megan here. I felt that something desperately needed to be said about last night (Friday, January 12th, 2018). Sincerest apologies are due to each of you who came out. We were caught so unexpectedly by the size of the crowds of hungry people that came to Mermaid Point yesterday evening. We have never, ever seen that many folks come out to have dinner and enjoy themselves at the restaurant. Last night was rough. Last night stung, and we feel horrible things just didn’t come together the way we’d planned.
To everyone who waited over an hour for food that may or may not have come, to those who were waiting outside just to be seated, to all those folks who left after already waiting so long– all of us at Mermaid Point are truly and emphatically sorry!
That being said, I hope all of you can understand that we’re experiencing some very big growing pains. Please bear with us after this and I promise that Mermaid Point will only become better and better. We’re learning from each and every mistake we make. We ask for your forgiveness and hope that we’ll see you back for another try.
Megan, Ilia, and your friends at Mermaid Point
We are so thankful for how our grand opening day unfolded, thanks to you! The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by our own Lillington Chamber of Commerce and several of our amazing kitchen and dining room staff. We’re so happy that the ORIGINAL Mr. Howard Avrette made sure to attend the ceremony; it was an honor to have him present for that moment. And who else decided to pop in for lunch? Why none other than Mr. David Avrette! We’ve known David ever since we started renting the river shack for Cape Fear River Adventures back in 2012. He’s been a great support to us over these years and of our family’s businesses. His friendship is another thing we are thankful for!
During the day, we gave away 20% off coupons and had such a nice crowd of folks come in and eat delicious food.
The evening brought fantastic acoustic entertainment by a duo from the band, DL Token. The band is based in nearby Sanford, NC. We’re glad they’re close by because we want more DL Token! The music was played indoors, due to our record-breaking cold week here in the South. The set-up couldn’t have been more perfect! Two talented musicians playing an intimate evening acoustic set for our customers was a nice and relaxing way to conclude Mermaid Point’s grand opening.
With this day of grand opening behind us, I feel it’s safe to say that it was a success! The Mermaid Point family is proud to serve this community and bring something a little new and special to the Lillington mix! With y’all’s immeasurable support and patronage, we hope to be around for a long time 🙂
Happy new year! -Megan
